1.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base of early
childhood care and
education and to stay informed
through continuing education and training (NAEYC, 2005).
This is important to me because as professionals is our job to grow and keep educating ourselves to better serve children and families we serve.
I-1.11—To provide all children with experiences in a
language that they know,
as well as support children
in maintaining the use
of their home language and in
learning English (NAEYC, 2005).
This is important to me because as a teacher I am able to serve, communicate with my Spanish speaking children and families. I am able to help them by accessing resources, translating, have somebody who they can talk in their native language, etc.
1.3—To recognize and respect the unique qualities,
abilities, and potential
of each child (NAEYC, 2005).
Every child is different with their own unique ways of learning, playing, socializing, therefore as an educator is my job to observe them carefully and provide them with the best intentional teaching I can, so they can develop their skills.

Hi Ana, To embrace each child's uniqueness is critical to developing their potential and their self-esteem...everything. I like how you refer to intentional teaching also. We should have some sort of purpose to our interaction with children just as we would be expected to do when interacting with adults. Very thoughtful choices and reasons for making them. I enjoyed reading your post. Cindy
